After the famous anti-gay legislation appeared in Poland, now they have people in the streets demanding full ban on abortion – even in case of rape. The European Parliamentarians have reacted, but I’m sure national governments could do more to tell them a story about European values…The Berlin declaration could be faxed, if not properly read.
Ha, “tell them a story about European values” ??
What, like French racism or anti-Semitism perhaps ?? And what of Ireland’s attitude to abortion ??
I think you need to reevaluate your idea of “Europe” as well…it stretches from the Atlantic to the Urals, so Russian nationalism is actually a part of “European values” as much as the supposedly liberal policies of the West are!
Finally, Poland has been a part of Europe for over 1000 years, so don’t be so arrogant as to talk as if they need to be taught European values as if they are only now being admitted to “Europe”!! You don’t need to agree with their values and they don’t need to agree with yours!

Thanks for the comment Jake. Well, under no condition I would classify either French racism and anti-semitism, Russian nationalism…as part of European values and also not something we should tolerate. If you think differently, then we are worlds apart.
As for the abortion. How many countries are there left with legislation prohibiting it in the case of rape? Or even just in any case? As you also notice, not many. Portugal also recently voted to remove the barriers.
So, it’s a question where you position yourself and what you think is common. I hardly think you would dispute that molesting gays is appropriate, especially if done by the state.
